Amazon Lifts Ban on New FBA Sellers

Amazon Lifts Ban on New FBA Sellers

As of December 19, 2016, the new seller ban on Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) shipments has been lifted. Merchants can now create shipping plans in their Seller Central accounts and ship their products to fulfillment centers (FC).

FBAforward is advising new FBA sellers to expect an influx in the number of shipments and a longer receiving process at Amazon’s fulfillment centers during the next few weeks. We are estimating that shipping inventory via UPS will take ~7-10 day and LTL will take ~14-20 days to be shipped and received. Shipment and check-in times may vary across Amazon warehouses.

What was the ban about?

On October 10, 2016 Amazon locked out new FBA sellers from selling through FBA until December 19. A notification was sent out from Amazon about this policy update on October 10 or 11. Amazon is known for making unexpected, last minute changes like this with little to no warning for its merchants.

Warning on Seller Central to new sellers who attempted to send product to FBA warehouses:

“We were unable to update your shipment. We are restricting shipments from new-to-FBA sellers to ensure we have the capacity necessary to receive and store inventory and to ship products to customers quickly. If you have not completed your first shipment to Amazon before October 10, 2016, we encourage you to start shipping to Amazon after December 19, 2016. If the situation changes before December 19, 2016, we will notify you by e-mail. We encourage you to continue selling on Amazon and fulfilling orders directly to customers. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

So, what now?

If your products are already in the FBAforward warehouse, we will be sending out UPS shipments immediately and scheduling LTL pickups for this week. If your products aren’t quite to the warehouse yet or have just arrived, you no longer need to worry about the ban! We will resume our standard shipping to Amazon’s fulfillment centers and will close out our FBM program once all orders currently enrolled in the FBM program arrive at their corresponding FCs.
